Soaking in the Radium Hot Springs

Soaking in the Radium Hot Springs

“Gaze up at the rock cliffs of Sinclair canyon from the spacious mineral hot pool and see if you can spot one of the bighorn sheep that make this canyon home” – Parks Canada

When traveling through the Canadian Rockies it is highly recommended that you take a soak in the famed hot springs.

Why, you ask? Aside from the rich minerals and all that good stuff located in the water, soaking in a massive naturally heated pool is a great way to burn an afternoon!

The Rocky Mountain region offers several hot springs to choose from, but there was one that jumped out at us – Radium Hot Springs.

The actual village of Radium Hot Springs is located just outside Kootenay National Park, a short drive from Panorama, Fairmont and Kicking Horse Ski Resorts and about 1.5 hours south of Golden, British Columbia.  We were on our way to Panorama Mountain Village so this was the perfect way to break up the day’s drive.

The village reminded us of our travels through the European countryside. It’s a cute mountain village with alpine guest house and motels, and a population of approximately 800 people.

Built in the early 1900′s, the historical hot springs are the star attraction, bringing in tourists from all over the world.

The Radium Hot Springs Pools are located at the south entrance of Kootenay National Park and they make an ideal stop on the Canadian Rockies circuit.

It’s open to the public all year round with two large pools, one with hot water for soaking typically around 39°C or 104°F, the other a cold pool usually around 29°C or 84°F.

A unique feature of these hot springs is it’s Canada’s largest natural odourless hot pool.  The hot pool is situated right against towering cliffs, creating a fantastic backdrop and the perfect setting for relaxation.
