Photo of the Week: The Southern Alps, New Zealand

Mount Cook and Mount Tasman reflection off Lake Matheson, New Zealand’s South Island

Mt Cook, New Zealand

New Zealand’s Southern Alps stretch along the western side of the South Island and offer some of the most spectacular landscapes in all of New Zealand.  A popular viewpoint is the reflection of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman off Lake Matheson, as see in the photo above.

This photo was taken towards the end of May, just entering into the winter season.  The majestic snow-capped range is home to several ancient glaciers, including the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers that are located very close to where this photo was taken.
