Photo of the Week: Giant Sand Dunes of Huacachina, Peru

Huacachina Sand Dunes, Peru

Dune buggy and massive sand dunes in the Peruvian Desert Oasis

Huacachina is a stunning desert oasis in Peru located just outside the city of Ica, about 4.5 hours south of Lima and 10 hours from Arequipa (by tourist class bus). As the photo illustrates, it’s quite the sand box!

The laid back village is built around a small natural lake with towering sand dunes protecting it from all sides. The Peruvian desert oasis has become an increasingly popular tourist attraction for adventurers drawn to sandboarding and high speed dune buggy rides.
