Croatia’s historical port city on the coast of the Adriatic Sea

Split, Croatia

Take a walk along on the seaside promenade of Old Town Split and you’ll quickly understand why its considered to be one of the finest Mediterranean cities in Europe.

Split is the second most populated city in Croatia next to Zagreb, which is the Croatian capital, and it’s the main city in Dalmatia.  Many of Split’s historical and cultural monuments are located within the walls of the Roman emperor Diocletian’s Palace, a 1,700 year old landmark that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Modern day Split has seen a boom in tourism due to its character harbour and old town charm.  It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
