Views of the Blue City from Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India
Located in the Indian state of Rajasthan, the fortified city of Jodhpur has become famous for being the “Blue City”. It’s easy to see why Jodhpur get’s its nickname. Many of the stone homes are painted with the same bright blue paint, beautifying the historical city while also creating a unique atmosphere.
No trip to Jodhpur is complete without a visit to its magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, one of the largest and oldest forts in all of India. As you can see from the photo below, Mehrangarh Fort is quite impressive to say the least!
We spent days enjoying the breathtaking views from our hostel’s rooftop restaurant, shadowed by the towering landmark. Though pictures are worth a thousand words, this picture simple cannot capture the sheer size and dominating presence of the celebrated fort.
I know that it’s cliché to say, but the views are truly one of a kind!

Two things stand out for me about Mehrangarh Fort – one was the fabulously romantic, picturesque and delicious dinner I enjoyed at the open-air restaurant at the fort’s pinnacle. Wow! What a view. The second memory is of the simply excellent – although in Indian terms not cheap (I think 300 Rs or about $7.50) – audioguide now available for the entire fort. I believe it is narrated by the Maharajah of Jodhpur himself and it added so much to the experience.
Jodhpur is a fascinating city and the sweets are second to none. Mawa kachori, makhania lassi and gajar ki halwa. Drool
.
We also did the audio tour. Wasn’t it great?! One of the better ones out there. India looks so beautiful from the rooftop terraces.

My father is from India he keeps on telling me that India is the best place to look for small market , even though its a part of the third world country. we can find exotic foods and bargain clothes there.
