Hawaii’s Five Favorite Tropical Islands

This is a guest post submitted by Leslie, a travel enthusiast living in beautiful Hawaii.

Surprisingly, we have never made the trip to Hawaii, even though it’s only a short flight from Vancouver. But we plan to change that this year, as Hawaii is one of our 2012 travel destinations – where should we go first?!

North Shore Sunset - Oahu, Hawaii

Convincing people to visit Hawaii is no challenge.

Pristine beaches, staggering craters, lush rainforests and a rejuvenating vibe draw travelers from all over the world. From the cultural hubbubs of Waikiki and Hilo to the tranquil serenity of the lesser-populated islands of Molokai and Kauai, Hawaii offers a visually stunning and spiritually enriching experience no matter how you plan to spend your time.

Decide which tropical island is calling out to you, or spend your vacation island hopping to fully experience all that the Aloha state has to offer.

Hanauma Bay, Oahu, Hawaii

Oahu

Ease into island life in Oahu, where the rich cultural diversity and excitement of the cities abuts jaw-dropping, unspoiled natural beauty. From Waikiki to the North Shore, you’ll find an abundance of outdoor activities, vibrant nightlife and world-class cuisine.

For the golf enthusiast, visit the stunning course at Waialae Country Club (host of the Sony Open in Hawaii PGA tournament), you might even catch sight of professional golfers like Tiger Woods or Camilo Villegas.

Kawela Beach Park Molokai Hawaii (Maui County)

Molokai

The destination for those looking for the true island experience away from the bustle of a city, Molokai offers a tranquil refuge against a gorgeous backdrop of lush tropical flowers and serene beaches. Perfect for rekindling romance or rejuvenating your spirit, enjoy Aqua’s beach side bungalows with unobtrusive but accommodating service.

Canyon Depths - Waimea Canyon, Kauai

Kauai

Geologically speaking, Kauai is the oldest of the main Hawaiian islands. As the old adage goes that with age comes wisdom, Kauai has figured out how to host a good vacation. Arguably the most beautiful of the islands, Kauai offers the ultimate experience for those who want to immerse themselves in nature.

Hidden waterfalls, towering cliffs and cerulean waters abound, from Waimea Canyon to Hanalei Bay. No trip to Kauai is complete without a visit to the Na Pali Coast, which was the location for Jurassic Park.

Maui

Synonymous with gorgeous vistas and a laid-back lifestyle, Maui is one of the most visited islands. Live it up in the exciting historic village of Lahaina, or skip off the beaten path to Hana. Get ready to brave one of the world’s most scenic (and windy) roads to the unspoiled town of Hana on the eastern coast to experience one of Hawaii’s last frontiers.

Lanai, Hawaii

Lanai

Tranquil, sublime Lanai isn’t for anybody, as evident in the lack of traffic lights or paved roads. But that’s what so many people love about it.

The Pineapple Island possesses all the unspoiled beauty associated with Hawaii as well as a few unique features like Keahiakawelo Garden of the Gods. Unparalleled accommodations are still offered, and with an endless number of fabulous Hawaii hotels to choose from, your vision of paradise will never have to be compromised.

Whichever island (or islands) you choose to visit, you will definitely give the state a giant Mahalo when you return to the mainland!
