Panoramic views of Petra, Jordan
When most people think of the lost city of Petra, they typically see images of the iconic Treasury. It’s what initially caught our attention and inspired us to visit the holy land.
But what many people don’t know is that the Treasury is only a fraction of what lies inside the cherished stone city. Petra is HUGE! It’s spread over several kilometers and is made up of hundreds of caves, tombs and monuments carved out of sandstone cliffs and colourful canyons.
We spent two full days hiking around Petra, including a trip to the legendary Monastery, but we still only scratched the surface of this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is something quite special about walking through an ancient city that’s thousands of years old – it really puts life into perspective!
We worked hard to capture this photo. We hiked straight up the side of a canyon to an incredible lookout point, which was no easy feat with the intense, dry desert heat. But this incredible vista made it well worth the extra effort!
