Today we would like to share a pretty cool time lapse video that was shot at sunrise on the top of Haleakala Volcano. On our last trip to Maui we had bad weather the morning we went up to Haleakala Volcano, so we’re happy to share this video produced by Dan Douglas.
Time-lapse video: Sunrise over Haleakala Volcano in Maui, Hawaii
About the video: After my friend Amber told me about a place in Maui that had the most beautiful sunrise in the world, I jumped on the internet and researched Haleakala. I was blown away with the images I viewed online.
As a time lapse photographer, I knew this would be the perfect spot to showcase one of the world’s most impressive sunrises. I was initially concerned about the drive up – as some people complained about windy, turbulent roads. My friends provided me with peppermint – an anti-nausea remedy, but I was pleasantly surprised that the drive up to the volcano was much easier than expected.
Arriving early, we hiked to the summit of Haleakala and setup 4 cameras to capture the clouds slowly morphing into the volcano. It’s dark at that hour, so I setup long exposures to show the dramatic movement of the clouds. I then heard the awe’s of people below as the sun peaked through.
After viewing the sunrise in Haleakala, I have to agree – this sunrise is the most magnificent in the world.
