Muscle Beach Venice on the Los Angeles Coast
Located two blocks north of Venice Boulevard on Ocean Front Walk in Venice, California is one of the weirdest and most uncomfortable tourist attractions we’ve visited – Muscle Beach.
Why is it so weird and uncomfortable you ask?
Well, basically it’s an outdoor gym filled with jacked up dudes in tight speedo shorts grunting and moaning while bench pressing weights twice their body weight. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on those that like to use outdoor gyms and catch some sunshine while staying fit. It’s an essential part of the Californian lifestyle.
What’s weird is that this outdoor gym has become a tourist attraction, a reason for some to visit the Venice Beach strip. Brochures and travel guides actually promote Muscle Beach as a destination worth checking out when visiting Santa Monica and the Los Angeles coast. And, of course, the gym participants like to put on a show for their raving fans. Flexing, clenching, squeezing, winking. It’s all just so bizarre.
But the ironic thing is that we took a few photos and are now sharing them on our travel blog, so what does that say about us?!
