Moment of Reflection at the Taj Mahal
This week’s travel photo was captured at the majestic Taj Mahal in Agra, India. The Taj Mahal is one of the most spectacular buildings we’ve ever witnessed. Often times famous tourist attractions don’t live up to the hype, but the Taj Mahal certainly made a lasting impression on us.
We arrived at the entrance gate just after sunrise, well before the waves of tourist buses arrived. This gave us a solid hour to explore before the crowds took over. Within an hour there was a never-ending flow of visitors walking on either side of the reflection pond.
The Taj Mahal is often considered to be the finest example of Mughal architecture (an architectural style that combines Persian, Indian and Islamic elements) and, in 1983, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and describe as “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage”.
