39 Photos that will Inspire You to Travel the World
Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words, so we thought it would be fun to showcase some of our favourite travel photos from the past couple of years. Even though we’re big fans of vibrant colour, there’s something special about a good old Black & White.
We’re visual people, so it’s no surprise that we’re easily inspired by other people’s travel photos. We love stumbling on photos that introduce us to a new place or show us a different side of something familiar.
Hopefully one of these photos will inspire you to plan your next adventure!
Have you visited any of these wonderful places?

I LOVED Easter Island when I was there so I’d say those two are my FAVOURITES! I would love to go back in my lifetime – it was just such an amazing place.
Couldn’t agree more Chrystal. It’s one of our favourite travel memories. As cliche as it sounds, Easter Island really is unlike any other place on earth.
Wonderful pictures. I really need to start experimenting with black and white more. It seems to work especially well with architectural photos.
Thanks Daniel.
We haven’t spent a lot of time with B&W photography either, but hope to continue experimenting. I agree, it works well with architecture (and stormy landscapes).
I’m actually surprised by how many of the same places we have been to. I haven’t been to a lot but there is a fair few I have seen.
Been to Sydney, KL, Mykonos Greece (I have the exact same photo in my albums), Cambodia, Alberta (worked in Lake Louise for a few months), Bangkok, Hong Kong, Paris (lived there for 6 mths), Angkor Wat, Japan (but haven’t been to Kyoto), Lodon, Halong Bay (one of our fav places), Athens, Boracay (we were engaged there), and Venice.
They are great photos.
You’re well travelled Tam Le! 🙂
You are right. The photos acquire a diferent meaning when you see them in B&W. I can even chose a favorite photo in here. Most of them are appealing to me.
Thanks Ruth – I’m glad you like the photos. 🙂
Prague, the Canadian Rockies, and Alberta are my favorite ones. Great B&W photos. Did you shoot these in B&W?
Hey Jeremy – No, we shot in colour and edited them in post production.
The New Zealand one with the fog is my favorite. I’ve only made it to a handful of those destinations so far. They’re all on my list though. Great collection of photos!
Thanks Reid!
We also like how the Rotorua photo turned out. The steam from the geothermal pool really makes the photo come alive.
These are amazing! I think the photo of the Louvre is my favorite, but Easter Island is also really cool. Definitely an inspiration to travel!
Thanks Christy – I’m glad you like the photos! 🙂
I love the Cologne photo – so arty!
I’ve been to a number of places, but there are still so many more to see! 😉
Thanks! 🙂
Awesome photos! I’ve been to a few of these places and seeing them brings back wonderful memories. The Canadian Rockies and Machu Picchu are my favourite shots because I’ve been hiking in both of these places and I had the most amazing time. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Thanks for stopping by Karen!
The Machu Picchu photo is one of my favourites, for the same the reason – it reminds me of an incredible hiking experience that I’ll never forget.
You guys sure get around – truly inspiring photos!
Thanks Dani – I’m glad you like the photos!
You two have had some fantastic travels in the past year too! 🙂
wow amazing photos! I’d say venice is the best one
Thanks Andrea – glad you like the photos!
I loved every one of them!! If I had to pick a favourite then I’d say the Venice one really stands out for me – probably because I want to travel there so badly!
Thanks Lisa!
Venice is a special place. Hopefully you’ll get there soon! 🙂
I love that one from New Zealand…
Thanks Raymond. That one seems to be getting a lot of votes.
I really like the Rotorua, NZ photo, the B&W gives it a really nice feel.. Your beach photos in B&W make it look like dreary/bad weather, and with the people tanning I’m assuming it’s not ;). I much prefer seeing that Caribbean blue 🙂
Thanks for the feedback Pete. I hadn’t even thought of that, but now that you have drawn my attention to it I can see your point. Perhaps beach photos in B&W work better when the sun is more visible?
Where haven’y you been?? Would LOVE to go to Jordan one day though next up on the exotic front for me is Colombia.
We’ve never been to Columbia but I’ve heard lots of great things about it.
It’s funny you should say that, because sometimes we feel like there is so much of the world we haven’t seen. It’s a good reminder to focus on the wonderful places we have been fortunate enough to experience.
Beautiful shots! My favorite one is the windmills in Greece.
Thanks JoAnna! 🙂
I’m ‘officially’ inspired! 🙂
Awesome – mission accomplished!
Love the Rotorua photo.
Thanks!
I think it works well in B&W, makes it feel more dramatic
Love these pictures! Especially the ones from New Zealand! Great post!
Thanks Yvonne!
Glad you like the photos 🙂
Hey! Thanks for following me! You have really been to all those places? Lucky guys! You have really great photos though 😉
Thanks Soizpic!
Yes, these are all our own personal photos.
Fantastic photos. I would check this post again to see my next prospect where I would have my next vacation. I have visited Batad, Philippines and I really like the place.
Thanks Azslyn, we also really liked our time in the Philippines 🙂
Wow, you two have been to so many great places! I especially like the Budapest photo because the white really stands out.
Thanks Jenna!
The Hungarian Parliament is quite the building
That’s quite a stockpile of travel memories! Any one of these locations would be the trip of a lifetime for most people. Makes you feel especially grateful when you see things laid out like this, doesn’t it?!
Totally agree Caanan, we feel very fortunate to have been able to experience these wonderful places… and doing it together makes it that much more special! 🙂
Funny thing about that Athens photo, as every time I visit Athens whether 20 years ago or recently, there’s always construction going on and scaffolding in the picture! Last we went on a European vacation through Suitelife Vacations that got us some nice villas for a family home away from home experience which was quite wonderful especially letting us get to know the townsfolk – something you can’t beat in the UK, France & Greece (also elsewhere) for getting to know and live the local culture … and for people shots that make the location come alive!
absolutely LOVE that photo of the Taj Mahal. Such a different angle, not the cookie-cutter frontal view. Great inspirational photos for sure!
Thanks Maria – I’m glad you like the photo! 🙂
Sometimes a good black & white can really make a photo stand out like in your photo of New Zealand. Great shot
Totally agree!
Thanks for the kind words 🙂
Wow, these photos are amazing! I love the b&w take on them as well, definitely very inspiring 🙂
Awesome – Mission Accomplished! 🙂
I am planning to take a vacation next month and I am so lucky to find these photos. Thanks for sharing this one. I will look here where I am going to take my next vacation.
Glad you like the photos Trisha!
Hey! Amazing pictures. Thanks for sharing them! All the pictures are simply superb! If I’m asked to pick just one, I think I’d go for the Canadian Rockies, Alberta! Our last trips were to France and Italy. Specially loved Venice and Paris. We’d been to Prague last year and to Vienna this April. We’re heading to Norway next. Of course, been to Mumbai and New Delhi a few times. Been to Israel, but alas couldn’t make it to Jordan.
Sounds like you’ve had some fantastic travel experiences Rukma!
Gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing them!
I love the one of the Louvre 🙂 I miss Paris. Definitely need to get back there at some point! 🙂
You’re very welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the post 🙂
I just love these photos. thanks for including your visit to the Philippines 🙂 I am inspired to take on my dreams of seeing the world and share these to those who reads me too.
Cheers 🙂
I’m happy that these photos have sparked some travel inspiration for you Doc! Make it happen!
Loving these photos! Batad, Bangkok and Transylvania are my favourites here. Feeling inspired but sat down and about to start work…roll on Friday, although maybe time to check some flight prices…
Thanks Tom! I like the Bangkok one too… action shot with the boat and storm clouds.
Now, get back to work! 🙂
Nice Photo’s though I prefer sepia to B&W.
Ah, a sepia fan… that can work too! 🙂
These pictures are breath taking. I can’t believe how much of the world I have yet to see. I think of all the locations Dubai would be the top of my list. They all seem so interesting though. It sure would be hard to choose just one to visit! Most of them aren’t the average vacation spot making them even more desirable. Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos.
I’m glad you like the photos Kali! It was fun taking them 🙂
The are perhaps the most beautiful places in the world. I am glad you have the Taj Mahal on the top.
I really like the Taj Mahal photo too… it’s one of my personal favourites from all of our travels.
It speaks to me and instantly takes me back to Agra!
Wow. Inspire me you did! So many great shots… hard to choose! Berlin might be my fave, because I loved it there so much, and you really captured Brandenburg Gate in that shot… it’s moody!
Great blog fellow Canucks (and Vancouverites!)
Thanks for the kind words Andrea – I’m glad you like the photos!
I want to visit Cambodia this year so thanks for the photo. Now, I am much more eager to visit this place.
Awesome! Cambodia is an interesting place with lots of smiling faces 🙂
Well, I’m definitely inspired!
Mission accomplished!
Consider me inspired. I’ve only been home for two days and am itching to get back out on the road. 🙂
Awesome! Glad you like the photos Kieu 🙂
You guys really have gotten around the globe! I love the shot of the pyramids in Egypt. There is something out it in black and white that makes the image look even more ancient and suspended in time.
Thanks Suzy!
Agreed – B&W photos always appear “older”
THE PHOTO’S OF SO MANY GREAT PLACE’S AROUND THE WORLD,I’VE BEEN 2 THE PHILLIPINES AND JAPAN AND ITALY.SEEING THE WORLD MAKES YOU APPRECIATE EVERYTHING, K
Cheers Keith!
Great set of pictures! My next destination will be Alberta, Canada, looking forward to seeing these beautiful mountains for real! But after a look at the pictures, I would love to travel to Vietnam and see Halong Bay
Have fun in Alberta! It’s a beautiful place.
Wow, incredible photo essay guys!
Thanks Ryan!
Glad you like the photos 🙂
It’s hard to choose what my favorite picture is since all of them are very beautiful. 😀 But I have come up with my most favorite photo of them all – your photo of Canadian Rockies, Alberta. The scenery is just purely awesome. I’m a nature-loving type of person that’s why I was easily attracted to the photo. I was just imagining myself being in that clean and peaceful place. All in all the pictures are really great in their B&W, how much more if the places are photographed in full color, right?
Glad you like the photos Ivy! 🙂
I have lived in Europe for the last 20 years and my career allowed me travel quite extensively. I’ve seen and traveled to most of these places and though beautiful the one thing I couldn’t get past was the amount of poverty and hunger all around me in most of these places.
I no longer travel for pleasure but real purpose; spending all that money on myself and giving it to people and businesses that don’t care whether I was there or not… finally caused me to seek if I could make a difference in the world – I became involved with charity work. I now travel and make several trips to Africa a year to work with the poorest of the poor.
The rewards and peace within have been beyond even my own understanding. I live in Paris with my partner and no matter how many times I have seen the sights here that once moved me – they simply can not compare to traveling to some remote place where I really matter or holding another small human that once was dying from hunger and is now laughing and playing with his mates. No image or place will ever match that… just this week – I destroyed 15 years of my guilt ridden travel images.
I come here to say I have finally made a full peace with myself.
The Hong Kong photo looks amazing. I’m going there in about a month and I can’t wait!
Very inspirational photo set, thanks for sharing!
For some reason I prefer Black and White photos more than the colour ones. They look mysterious and so cool. I loved your photos guys! My favourite one is the one taken in Kyoto, Japan, lovely!
It’s looks amazing to look photos in black and white in these times…..
I like the photo of Taj Mahal India.
Thanks for the post.
I like the image of Transylvania,as it is known for the story of Vampires i am very much curious to know about it.
It looks kind of horror in Black and White….
Nice pix. not travelled to Sri Lanka yet?
Wow!! Those are really nice pictures.
My favourite photo is Taj Mahal in india.
Beautiful shots! Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words.Every picture tell some thing about history and places. And there are so many beautiful places in the world.

Been to KL, Malaysia and Batad, Philippines.
There’s so much to explore yet.
Thanks!
I have been fortunate enough to visit 4 or 5 of these destinations! Your pictures are fantastic! How I wish for thjem to be in colors (but you can’t have everything). And I must remind you of the Norwegian fjords? Some of them figure on ‘The world heritage list’.
I have opened a blog presenting Norway and Norwgian nature. It’s rather new, I’m afraid, but there are already several hundred pictures published and more coming every week.
You’re invited to take a peek!

Love that photo of New Zealand!
Been to a few, none in Asia just yet though! Great essay, definitely inspiring :).
Awesome pictures in B&W, I personally been in some of those places and being there is beyond compare.
Amazing!! This pictures are fantastic. I like them in black and white and have a few of these same pics in colour. Love that pic at Moraine lake 😉
Absolutely stunning photos!
I simply can’t decide which one I prefer.
Black and white pictures really give character and it is just amazing how you can capture a moment in a special place and then once you look back at it, you relive the experience all over again 😉
Excellent work!
Beautiful pictures clicked!!! I liked your sense of clicking pics in black and white…
Taj Mahal is so beautiful at the same time, while Singapore is fabulous. Awesome stuff!!!
Wow gorgeous shots guys! Consider me inspired!!
I love B&W’s – There is just something so mesmerizing about a good B&W photo. I have now added a few extra places on our ‘list’ 🙂
