From Our iPhone: A Colourful Autumn Day in Whistler
Everyone has a happy place. That special part of the world that allows you to fully escape the everyday and reconnect with yourself.
For us, that happy place is Whistler in British Columbia (about 1.5 hours north of Vancouver).
We love everything about Whistler. The fresh mountain air, the endless outdoor adventure, the diverse selection of restaurants and bars, the alpine village and world class resorts, the laid back West Coast attitude. It has everything we look for in a destination, so it’s no surprise we try to visit as often as possible.
But we rarely find ourselves in Whistler during the fall. It’s not intentional, we just typically find ourselves visiting in the winter and summer months. There’s really not much happening in the month of October because the mountain resort is preparing for the upcoming ski/snowboard season. Add some predictable rainy weather and its easy to understand why October is one of the slower months for this Canadian adventure hub.
However, this October was different. With Nicole soon to be off maternity leave and back to work, we want to spend as much time together as a family before we have to send Baby B to day care (we’re not looking forward to that moment when we have to leave him for the first time).
This was the inspiration for our most recent visit to Whistler – quality family time in our happy place.
The weather was rainy, overcast and cold, but we live in the Pacific Northwest so this is just business as usual for this time of year. We actually like the rain and find comfort in it, especially sitting by the fire, surrounded by nature.
However, what we didn’t expect was to be treated to such a wonderful display of colour! The changing season brings bright yellow, orange and red colours, creating a stunning natural setting that makes an autumn visit well worth the trip.
