The Grand Canal in Venice, Italy
Ah, Venice. What can we say that hasn’t been said already?
This week’s travel photo showcases the The Grand Canal, one of the major water-traffic corridors in the historical Italian city. This photo was captured from Ponte dell’Accademia, one of only four bridges in Venice that crosses the bustling Grand Canal. The big white dome in the distance is the stunning Santa Maria della Salute (also known as The Basilica of St Mary of Health).
So, does Venice live up to the tourist hype? You bet it does!
The detailed architecture, the tight labyrinth of streets, the romantic gondolas, the rainbow bridges, the tasty food, the lively music, the hospitable people — Venice delivers. Yes, it’s super touristy and overpriced. But there’s good reason why Venice has the reputation that it does.
