How to find a Great Deal with Aeroplan
Over the past few years, we’ve chosen some of our travel destinations because of the great deals we’ve found by redeeming our Aeroplan Miles. We’ve easily saved thousands of dollars on flights and hotels, which is one of the ways we’re able to travel as often as we do.
We have to be strategic with our travel planning now that we travel as a four-pack. Flights alone can cost over $4,000 for four seats, so we can’t be as spontaneous as we once were.
Our trip to Ireland last summer (read how we found that deal here) and Aruba earlier this year (read how we found that deal here) were booked because the deal we found on flights was just too good to pass up.
What do we mean by Great Deals?
A Great Deal is when the Market Fare Flight Reward® level drops below the Fixed Mileage Flight Reward® level for a specific destination. Basically, this means you can get flights on select Air Canada flights by redeeming less Aeroplan Miles than you normally would.
Over the past few years, we’ve found Great Deals purely by chance.
We are subscribed to a lot of newsletters and we’re constantly playing around with Google Flights. When we receive an email notification about certain destinations or deals, we jump the Aeroplan app and do a LOT of trail and error. We play around with dates and airports to see what we can find. It’s a time consuming task but it usually pays off.
In some cases, Aeroplan offers what it calls a Great Deal. Meaning, the amount of Aeroplan Miles needed for the flight is heavily discounted.
Here’s why we are excited.
Aeroplan has made it much easier to find these Great Deals. Now, Aeroplan displays all of the Great Deals from destinations in an easy to find search. This is going to save us (and you!) a lot of time.
Above are a few of the deals from Vancouver right now.
Check out Dublin.
It’s normally 60,000 Miles per person, but right now you can get a round trip flight for only 18,700 Miles per person.
That is an amazing deal!
You can customize your Great Deals search.
- First, visit the Great Deals page.
- Use filters, such as departure city, trip type (round-trip or one-way) and departure month, to narrow the list of destinations where a Great Deal was recently available.
- Once you select a destination you can compare travel dates, trip duration, number of miles required, or mileage savings to decide what trip is the most interesting to you.
- Finally, click on “Search” to automatically launch a flight reward search with same date(s) and destination to see if the Great Deal is still available.
