Hiking the Halawa Valley on Molokai, Hawaii
One of the highlights from our time on Molokai was the hike through Halawa Valley to the cascading Moa’ula Waterfall. We love a good hike that offers a reward at the end, and the Halawa Valley hike does just that.
Sean, our guide and long-time Halawa Valley resident, lead us through the lush (and wet) rain forest, sharing his personal insight into the island’s history, culture and present day challenges. Molokai is a very interesting island with a colourful past – but more on that later.
We always have good intentions to shoot video, but when traveling with Baby B it can be difficult. Because this trip to Hawaii was without baby, we decided to step up our efforts and capture some video footage of the remote hike. We hope you like it!

What a paradisical hike, I’d love to explore Molokai. We’ve spent some time on Oahu but didn;t make it out to any of the other islands. I’m hoping we’ll be back soon to mahalo and aloha again!

It was pretty stinky, smelled like old cheese and gasoline. Not a fan of it, but some people seem to like it

Did you HAVE to hire a guide? Where did you stay while on Molokai? I am going in Feb of 2018. Like doing the research 🙂
Traveling Canucks says
Yes – you do have to hire a guide for the Halawa Valley hike, because you pass through private land. We stayed at Hotel Molokai

That last comment is exactly mine from 7-14-13. What’s up with that?

This guy/girl has been spamming us for weeks. They leave 20 comments on our blog everyday. For some reason my spam filter doesn’t catch then, so I have to delete manually. So annoying.
Irene says
Ahhh, Okay…sorry you have to deal with this :/

Thanks for posting this….and thanks for making the video. I love it when people post images and video from the lesser known Maui County hikes. I have always wanted to visit Halawa, but have never had the chance. Now that the ferry is no longer running from Lahaina to Molokai the only option to get over there is to fly…o well. Great looking hike!
