Aloha from the chilled out Hawaiian Island of Moloka’i!
We’re enjoying a quiet Easter Sunday morning on the lanai of our apartment at Wavecrest Resort, located on the south shore of eastern Molokai.
The coffee is freshly brewed and the warm Hawaiian sun is brightly shining. Off in the distance, we can see a pair of whales playing, surfacing every few minutes and shooting water out of their blowholes. It’s turning out to be another great day already and it’s only 7:00 AM!
We thought we’d take advantage of this peaceful moment to share some of the photos and stories from our trip so far.

WOW! This looks like an island we NEED to check out. I’m so glad the whales were still there for you too!! What a great trip to take. I know you missed Baby B, but I’m sure a full nights sleep didn’t hurt. Safe trip home gang!

It’s a very different island than Maui or Oahu. It’s as if it’s stuck in the 50’s, which is a rare find nowadays. Get there soon, I have a feeling things will be changing in the next 5-10 years.
Yes, the extra sleep was well needed and much appreciated! 🙂

Some great pics.
So jealous that you got to see whales from your apartment!

It’s pretty awesome! At one point, we saw 4 different whales breach from different parts of the water. Very cool. 🙂

That first you have reminds me of a lot of graduation luaus and family gatherings. I’m glad you made it out to Halawa, that is where my mom was raised. It’s been family land for hundreds of years, and her family still farms taro there today. But I have very depressing memories about St. Joseph Catholic Church…I’m sure I’ll get over it in time though. Haha. Glad you guys are enjoying it though! What has been your favorite part so far?

I love the scenery and I must admit there is nothing better than a bottle of local beer on the beach! You guys enjoy yourself!

You may not know this, but folks on Moloka’i are almost militantly anti-development in that they want to protect their ‘aina from going the way of a Maui or O’ahu – so I would be very surprised if it HAD changed much over the next 5-10 years!

E kala mai…the post above was in response to your April 5 post…didn’t see the reply button to make it line up to the post until after I submitted!

Hi guys, I know this post is a few years ago now but wondered which island of Hawaii you would recommend my husband and I go to with our new son, he will be 8 months at that point, and we are already doing ten days on Maui. We are into scuba diving, surfing, hikes to waterfalls, snorkelling, and not so interested in hustle&bustle or sunbathing. Any ideas? Thanks so much and cheers for your post!!

We haven’t been to all of the islands yet, but from what you’ve mentioned, I think Molokai would be a great fit for you. Very laid back and peaceful. Good hiking trails and waterfalls, nice beaches. And it’s right beside Maui, so getting there is relatively easy.
