When and what time of day did you go? There doesn’t seem to be very many people at all! And did you have the camel/horse rides made through a tour or just there on the spot? I’m thinking about going and may contact you guys for some more tips! Thanks for the fun post!
Hi Christy,
We went in the morning, around 8:00 AM. By the time the massive tour buses arrived at 11:00 AM we were pretty much done for the day (it gets very hot!).
We did not book any tours, we simply negotiated with a camel merchant once inside the park. I think we paid about $20, which seemed high but it was well worth it for the photos.
Hope that helps!
Awesome photos. It must have been a great experience, I’m jealous!
Thanks Dean – it was a fun day!
Most of our pyramid pics had too many people in the background… Something that was very hard to avoid since we got there mid-day. Totally jealous! Did you get there really early?
Yeah, we got there around 8:00AM. We had about 1.5 hours before the waves of tourists should up in the massive coaches. Definitely better to arrive early morning or late afternoon.
I also am wondering how you got photos without hordes of people in them! I love them by the way. Jan
Thanks Jan! We just got up early and hired a taxi to take us there before the tour groups. I think we were there mid-week too, which helped π
first – great shots! sometimes it feels cliche that, of the places on my list to see, the pyramids are right at the top. everyone wants to, right? but these pics just underscore how amazing they are, and still as crazy about going as i was when i was younger! thanks for sharing!
Thanks Melissa – hopefully you’ll get a chance to see the Pyramids in person, they are quite impressive to say the least π
Wow, I wish I also can go to Egypt too….
You can! π
I love pyramids. It is my dream to visit Egypt to see these historical monuments. You gave me a glimpse of my dream through these images. Thanks a million for it. I love the images that show mirage of pyramids being held by hands.
Thanks for the kind words Steve – hopefully you’ll get to visit the pyramids soon! π
Love the creativity and diversity of these shots.
Thanks! Glad you like the photos Chica! π
This post brings back such good memories. To really admire the greatness of the pyramids, you have to visit them. Did you guys entered one? I entered the small one. It was a interesting (and hot and humid) experience.
No, we didn’t go into one. It was pretty hot and we had already visited the Valley of the Kings and Queens in Luxor… so we kinda felt like we had done the tomb exploration already
Camel surfing? Brilliant!
Hah! Isn’t it?!
So jealous! Visiting Egypt was one of my very first travel daydreams.
Make it a reality! Now is definitely a good time to visit as Egypt tries to re-establish its tourism – great deals to be had π
8am start! Thanks for the tip. I was wondering how all these photos had so few people in them.
Yep… you got to get there before the tour buses arrive π
Thanks for sharing . very informative information. I will bookmarking this post.
Glad you like the photos π
I love pyramids and dream to visit the pyramids once in my life. How was the heat there?
The heat wasn’t too bad. It’s much hotter in Luxor and along the Red Sea… but it’s still really hot compared to Canada π
Yes Egypt is great place. Like Udupi is the place for tourists, pilgrims and students. You find many clear water beaches, Great temples and best educational institutions and universities. Find the places with udupirounds.
Wow, such great photos, thanks for sharing! I have always wanted to go to Egypt, hopefully I’ll make it one day soon π
Thanks Sharon. We hope you make it to Egypt too π
Amazing photo’s, it is a dream of mine to go see the pyramids. When is the best time of year to go there?
Love your photos. Would it be possible to get permission to use the photo of The Great Pyramid of Giza with the people in the front as part of a fundraising advertisement? I volunteer with a non-profit (Finger Lakes Zero Waste Coalition, Inc.) that is trying to stop a massive expansion of our local landfill. The best analogy that people have related to is that the current landfill holds about 3.5 pyramids worth of garbage. The planned expansion would double that, leaving our community with 7 pyramids of garbage! I have been having a hard time finding good color photos of Giza and this one is great, especially because you can get a scale of the magnitude. Please let me know if I could have permission to use it. I am more than happy to add a credit to the picture so folks know where it came from.
CH
Geneva, that picture is not of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, but of the pyramid of Khafre, which is next to it in the center of the three pyramids.
Yeah it was soo fun π
Its really an amazing photos, i hope to see you again in Egypt, and i hope that every one could be convinced that Egypt is OK and Safe for tourism , all people are welcome in Egypt
Love these pyramids and the crazy city that is threatening to engulf them! I lived in Cairo for two years and think about it daily.
Great photos! So jealous! We will get there one day π Those pyramids would be absolutely stunning to see in real-life.
